AID (Activation-induced cytidine deaminase) Protein
Protein information
This gene encodes a RNA-editing deaminase that is a member of the cytidine deaminase family. AICDA is specifically expressed and active in germinal center-like B cells. AID, the protein product of AICDA, is required for several crucial steps in B‐cell terminal differentiation, which is necessary for efficient antibody responses. AICDA may also play a role in the epigenetic regulation of gene expression by participating in DNA demethylation.
