How to get to Pécs from Budapest

By Airport Shuttle

The international airport of Hungary is called Ferihegy. It is situated 20 km-s from Budapest city centre. It has two terminals: Ferihegy I. and Ferihegy II. There are about 50 companies flying to Budapest. Wizzair, EasyJet, and Jet2 offer cheap flights to Budapest from a lot of destinations

In Budapest airport you'll find an Airport Minibus office at the terminal. We advise you to take an Airport Minibus shuttle which ride to Pécs directly. This is the most convenient way of travelling and it costs approx. HUF 9,000 (≈ EUR 30). If you contact your programme coordinator before your arrival she/he will gladly help you to arrange a Minibus shuttle to Pécs. There are two main companies which offer airport shuttle from Budapest to Pécs:

By train

Another option for travelling from Budapest to Pécs is the train. Ask the taxi or the Airport Minibus driver to take you to the Keleti Pályaudvar (it means Eastern Railway station in Hungarian). From where you can travel to Pécs by an Inter-City (IC) train. On the website: www.elvira.hu/english you can find the IC timetable. The full fare 2nd class ticket with seat reservation will cost about HUF 4,500 (approx. EUR 15). You are advised to take an IC instead of the regular train because IC's are much faster and more comfortable than regular trains.

By Coach

Volánbusz runs domestic coaches in Hungary, thus daily coaches to Pécs. They leave from Budapest Népliget Coach Terminal (Budapest, IX. ker. Üllői út 131.), the same station where international coaches arrive.
